Have you ever wondered why your SQL Server database takes a long time to restore? How about why a failover of your Availability Groups, Failover Clustered Instances or even database mirroring configuration is taking a long time? I know I have.
I’ve gone from querying the sys.dm_exec_requests DMV to check for the status and percentage of a RESTORE command to looking at the cluster error log to see how long it took to failover a resource group. But then I was trying to figure out what happened instead of understanding how it works. In this video, I talk about the different factors affecting restore and recovery of your SQL Server databases. Take the lessons that you’ll learn from this video to constantly evaluate whether or not your high availability and disaster recovery strategies still meet your recovery objectives and service level agreements.
